Lens Material Guide

Plastic Lenses

Traditional plastic lenses are made from a hard resin (CR-39) that is cast into large lens blanks. These plastic blanks are ground into specific prescription powers and shapes to fit any lens frame. These lenses have the least distortion of any non-glass lens.

If the sphere on your prescription is +/-2.00 or lower, plastic CR-39 lenses will offer you amazing clarity and visual comfort. If the sphere on your prescription is higher than +/-2.00, you will certainly benefit by upgrading to a "thin high index" lens type.

For children or active adults engaged in sporting activities, we strongly recommend polycarbonate (impact resistant) lenses.

Polycarbonate Lenses

Polycarbonate lens material is well suited for custom rimless drill mount eyewear. Custom drill mount eyewear is the most technologically advanced and flexible eyewear system. Polycarbonate lenses are virtually shatterproof and provide a high level of eye protection. If the sphere on your prescription is +/-0.00D to +/-3.00D, we recommend the polycarbonate lens upgrade. Benefiting from its excellent safety profile, Polycarbonate is the best choice for children or active adults.

Recommended prescription range +/-0.00D to +/-3.00D

Hi-Index 1.60 - Level 1

High Index thin lens materials have a much higher optical density. This means in your exact same prescription, your lenses can be made significantly thinner and lighter! High index lenses also have flatter curves that allow for a much flatter lens profile termed ASPHERIC. High index lenses offer three main advantages: they do not look "thick", they do not magnify or minify your eyes when seen by others, and they are significantly lighter and easier to wear all day.
*25% Thinner and Lighter than Plastic CR-39*
Recommended prescription range +/-3.00D to +/-4.50D

Hi-Index 1.67 - Level 2

Our High Index 1.67 lens offers an excellent value for middle to high range prescriptions. Enjoy crystal clear vision while looking great. High Index 1.67 lenses are up to 40% thinner than regular plastic lenses!
*40% Thinner and Lighter than Plastic CR-39*
Recommended prescription range +/-4.00D to +/-6.50D

Ultra High-Index 1.71-1.74 - Level 3

This ultimate high index material offers those with higher prescriptions uncompromised visual clarity in the thinnest, lightest and most fashionable lenses available anywhere in the world.
These lenses are nearly 50% thinner than 1.50 index plastic and 13% thinner than 1.67 index offering you the ultimate in technology and cosmetics by reducing the "eye-shrinking" effect that many high prescriptions have. Hi-Index 1.74 lenses are the thinnest and flattest lens ever developed.
*55% Thinner and Lighter than Plastic CR-39*
Recommended prescription range +/-6.00D and higher
